Internationally, YCDI is becoming recognized as a framework not only for building the social-emotional capabilities of young people, but also those capabilities of adults in the community, school and home that are associated with positive youth outcomes...In January, 2004, the Benalla cluster of schools in north eastern Victoria adopted the YCDI capability building framework as a means for focusing on school effectiveness and bringing the community into the equation...In March, as a result of the launch of the "Investing in Parents" program in several London area and east and the west midlands, schools within a number of diverse educational authorities are focused on building parent capabilities...In the last week of March, the "YCDI Early Childhood Education Program: A Social-Emotional Learning Program" that builds the social-emotional capabilities of 4- to 6-year olds (confidence, persistence, organization, getting along, emotional resilience) was launched by Michael Bernard in Victoria, Australia, to over 500 early childhood educators to much acclaim...In Laguna Beach, California, the teacher capability building approach has been adopted by a steering committee offering advice to the school district on new initiatives...On May 10, Michael Bernard's capability-building model was presented in Australia to the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee into the professional development of teachers ...In June, Michael Bernard will be offering workshops in England sponsored by different Education Action Zones, Excellence in Cities and New Deal in the Communities (London, Birmingham, Stoke) to introduce You Can Do It!
